Teaching Children Important Lessons About Surviving a House Fire
1/25/2022 (Permalink)
Teaching children about fire safety is important. It is important to have an escape plan and make sure your child understands what they should do. You should make sure they are familiar with the smoke detector.
They should understand what the sound is, and that it means leave and go to the place where you family will safely meet outside.
It might be helpful for your child to draw a map of your home and highlight their escape route. It's also a good idea to walk that route with them and ensure they know where to meet outside.
It is equally important to keep fire sources out of the reach of children.
Keep matches, lighters and other ignitable substances in a secured location out of your child’s reach. The U.S. Fire Administration estimates that 300 people are killed and $280 million in property is destroyed each year as the result of children playing with fire.
